Project Overview
With the support of the Thornburg Foundation, the Water Data Initiative team has developed recommendations for a modern and dedicated monitoring network for groundwater in New Mexico. As climate change leads to decreasing surface water resources and increasing groundwater demand, having a robust groundwater monitoring network for the state will be essential. The goals of this project were to:
- 1) create more access to active groundwater monitoring locations and recorded groundwater data in the state
- 2) build a prioritized regional approach for enhanced groundwater monitoring networks in New Mexico
- 3) providing technical capacity within the New Mexico Water Data Initiative, the collaborative team working to address the goals of the Water Data Act
- 4) raise the awareness of water data challenges the state faces and taking steps to fill one of the many gaps in state water information
